SAVE STAINES HIGH STREET FROM GREEDY DEVELOPERS

SAVE STAINES HIGH STREET FROM GREEDY DEVELOPERS
The Issue
Property developers want to tear down the former Debenhams building on Staines High Street and replace it with two 15-storey residential tower blocks in another attempt to overdevelop Staines.
They are rushing to get approval from the council by the end of this year.
These developers propose to add 226 tiny new flats to an already congested part of Staines.
These will not be family-friendly homes with any green space.
They will be one and two-bedroom flats and the main private outside space for these residents will take the form of balconies!
These will not be affordable homes for existing Spelthorne residents.
Their prices will be out of reach for most local residents, and they will merely cater for avaricious landlords wanting to cash in on the property rental market.
The current building has stood on this site since 1957 and is entirely in keeping with the character of the area.
The size of this development is out of all proportion to the town centre, and the local infrastructure cannot sustain this size of development. There are already insufficient doctors, dentists, road space, parking and public transport for Staines residents and this will just make matters worse.
Residents' quality of life will suffer simply so that property developers can make more profits.
