The Issue

Dear Neighbor,

You may have noticed in our once quiet and safe neighborhood, roads have turned into a perilous racing path where reckless driving and noise has become the norm. We live on the road front and our hearts pound every time we see a car or motorcycle whiz by ignoring the speed limit. It's not just about us; we have observed other neighbors having young children and pets as well as wildlife who rely on all of us for their safety. The street has transformed from a peaceful area into a dangerous zone filled with unnecessary noise and risk. There has most certainly been an observable increase in the number of wildlife deaths recently, groundhogs (woodchucks), turtles and deer.

Our community is increasingly alarmed by the rising number of speeding vehicles, and it's just a matter of time before a tragic accident occurs. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding contributes to nearly a third of all traffic fatalities. We cannot have our neighborhood become part of these grim statistics.

We would like to consider having the appropriate entity install a stop sign in this community. Such measures have been proven to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety in residential areas nationwide. When implemented, fewer accidents and greater peace of mind for residents have been reported.

It's essential to take immediate action not only for our own safety but also for the safety of our children, pets and wildlife. By installing speed bumps or a stop sign, we can reclaim our streets and restore the tranquility we once cherished. Without such measures, the safety of our loved ones—both human and animal—remains under threat.

We urge our local council to listen to our plea and make this change before it's too late. Join us in prioritizing the safety and peace of our neighborhood. Please sign this petition to support our call for a safer, quieter street for everyone. Please check back for updates and attend the meeting at the 6th Police Precinct 400 Middle Country Rd, Selden on July 15th at 7pm to get your voice heard!!!
