The Issue

To the City of Overland Park and the Matt Ross Community Center:

Thank you again for opening your beautiful facility to not only our basketball team, but as a place where people of all ages can remain active, foster a sense of community, and build relationships.   As name implies, The Monstars, are a collective of mother's from the Kansas City Area, with the majority residing in Johnson County and Overland Park.

After watching our children play sports, we finally have the chance to demonstrate the same sportsmanship we preach to them after games. Most importantly, we have the opportunity to demonstrate you're never too old to try new things, make new friends, and have new experiences.

We were shocked to learn a $10 fee per person to watch applies for children and families to spend 40 minutes observing a basketball game.  All of us have attended countless sporting events for our children at many facilities operated by Overland Park Kansas and never paid to watch our children.  With 5 games remaining, the average team member would spend $30-$60 per game just to spare this special moment with our families and children.

Respectfully we ask for a fee waiver as our families are not swimming, playing, or engaging in other Services after beginning.  Our family is merely here to support, learn life lessons, and take bets on how many times mommy falls during the game.

If we need to provide a list of our partners, children, siblings, parents for the season in the event of an emergency, we are happy to do so. Hopefully we can reach a conclusion and receive a response as multiple members of our team have contacted you or your office without a response.  If a conclusion is not reached prior to the end of the current season, we hope to bring continued awareness to this issue given basketball is a year long sport.

Best regards,

The Momstars
