The momentum is building to get State Swim Meet for Speical Olympics Ohio back to Columbus, Ohio because this petition is getting more signatures. Cooper Pool at Bowling Green State University is a nice and fast pool, but it is not the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on The Ohio State University campus in Columbus. The permanent and movable bleachers at BGSU Cooper Pool are very steep and have to hold on a rail to go up and down, unlike the McCorkle which has more room to spread out and can accomodate swimmers from all over the state. I still feel bad for the athletes for Basketball (Team & Skills), Competitive Cheerleading, and Swimming living in Southern part of state of Ohio have to travel 4-5 hours to get to Bowling Green. That is from Athens, Cincinnati, Dayton, and more parts of Southeastern and Southwestern Ohio. Just grateful that the weather has been great for State Indoor Winter Games, but Special Olympics Ohio did not consider the winter road conditions in making the changes in 2019. I am thankful for more people signing recently like Darlene Durbak who started a petition in 2020 after the State Indoor Winter Games with "Eliminate the Maximum Effort Rule at State of Ohio Special Olympics Swimming" because her daughter got disqualified for swimming too fast or 15% of their maximum effort and happened 72 times during the 2020 Winter Indoor Games. I suggested to Jessica Stewart, the CEO of Speical Olympics Ohio that Ice Skating take place at the Slater Family Ice Arena to replace the Swimming event since the State Swim Meet would go back to Columbus. Special Olympics Ohio and BGSU signed a deal for 7 years. Other athletes have expressed their displeasure on how Special Olympics Ohio cutting events that raised money for the organization and make changes in 2019. I want to thank more people recently signed the petition on "Returning the State Swim Meet for Special Olympics Ohio back to Columbus, Ohio" and I have faith it will happen along "Reinstating Regional Bowling Tournament Qualifers for Special Olympics Ohio", bringing back Ice and Roller Skating back to the program; adding Open Water Swimming/Triathlon events and a Special Olympics Ohio Hall of Fame Museum. Thank you so much for hanging in there with me.
