I thought it would very chaotic for the first State Winter Games Indoor Sports at Bowling Green State University, it just the opposite. It was very well organized; many or most BGSU students and residents of Northwest Ohio were the volunteers of the events. Opening Ceremonies were a blast in the indoor tract stadium with dancing in the indoor football practice facility called the Perry Fieldhouse. Many teams stayed in Bowling Green; or surrounding areas like Findlay (where I stayed at), Maumee, Oregon, Perrsysburg, and other part of Northwest Ohio. There were lots going on with multiple basketball games in the Student Recreation Center, that houses the Cooper Pool with a climbing wall (the wall was closed due to the games). The Basketball Championship was in the Stroh Center, and cheerleading was at Perry Fieldhouse. Cooper Pool is a very fast pool and got to see some old friends and make new ones as well. The best news of all was there were no bologna sandwiches on white bread. They had healthier options with Santa Fe Salad with chicken, quinoa, beans, and corn on Saturday. Sunday had the turkey sandwich on Cibatta bread. They were very tasty. The swimming had some people disqualified from their races due to swimming too fast with 15% over that time. Overall, everyone did very well at the first State Winter Games Indoor Sports at Bowling Green State University. Get this? BGSU and Special Olympics Ohio have signed a long-term contract for the next 7 years, that the event is coming back to BGSU next year and beyond. However, I am not giving up on the petition to try to get State Swim Meet back home to Columbus, Ohio. Fortunately; the weather in Northwest Ohio was fantastic for the weekend of the State Winter Games Indoor Sports; but it is still a long drive from Cincinnati, Dayton, Athens, and southern part of the state of Ohio. It would have made more sense to have the State Winter Games Indoor Sports at The Ohio State University, instead of BGSU. Central Ohio hotels would have benefited from the Winter Games. They are locked in contract right now, but it could change. Giving up is not an option. When 200 signatures are completed; it will given to selected people at Special Olympics Ohio, The Ohio State University Athletic Department, and the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. I understand why that Special Olympics Ohio made the changes to consolidate events into from the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall sports. They could have made the changes slowly, instead of all at once. There will be no regional bowling tournaments this year. Instead, Special Olympics Ohio wants bowlers to do league play. I do not how the Individual and Team Bowling going on at the same time. While teams like Franklin County will just do individual bowling; and others just do team bowling only at the State Summer Games at Ohio State.
