The children who live at Lake Royale, or visit grandparents/extended family here, look forward to this police camp. For many kids, it is the only camp they will attend all year, possibly ever. For their guardians, they may be out of work, have lost wages, and have no child care the remainder of this week. The actions by the board were disgraceful and did not represent the community's wishes at large. The volunteers and the police department put a lot into this camp that will now not happen. I can not speak to the specifics of the Chief's termination, as that is a separate issue and has employer/employee confidentiality rights. However, this petition is presented due to the actions of the following Board members onsite today:

On June 10th, 2024, during the junior police camp event—a cherished tradition for our community—the public removal of Interim Chief Fanara by certain board members disrupted an event that means so much to our children and families. This decision has caused unnecessary distress and disappointment among the children, residents, and the remaining police force.

We call for these board members to be removed from their positions on the Lake Royale Board of Directors immediately. Their actions do not reflect our values or support for community initiatives like this important camp.
