The Issue

We have a surplus of intelligent and efficient Indian breed dogs languishing in the streets. Why don't we give them a new lease of life by including them in the prestigious Delhi Police Dog Squad among other breeds?

This move has the potential to bring about overall development of Indian breed dogs on multiple levels. Some advantages of seeing Indian breed dogs in the Delhi Police Dog Squad are as follows -

  1. This will make our Indian breed dogs more popular among households.
  2. More families will consider and prefer adopting Indian breeds.
  3. It will reduce the number of dogs suffering in the streets.
  4. There will be less cases of dog bites.
  5. There will be an equal opportunity for Indian breed stray dogs to be adopted; they are most suitable for the Indian climate and thus require low maintenance.

We see only breeds like Labrador Retriever, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd, Cocker Spaniel, Belgian Malinois getting preference in houses as well as in security forces. These breeds are said to be efficient in activities like tracking explosives, narcotics, and carrying out search and rescue operations. But has there been any study to prove that Indian breed dogs are not capable of the same?

Sign this petition and ask Special CP (crime) officer Taj Hassan to give a chance to the Indian breed dogs, and include and train some of them in the Delhi Police Dog Squad among other breeds.

The living condition of street dogs is deplorable. They are equally friendly as any other breed, yet Is there no value of their lives? In every nook and corner of the city we see malnourished and starving puppies roaming around with vehicles running around them. And there are very few people to help them.

While animal birth control is the most effective step to reduce their number from growing as even the female dogs are not able to take care of their pups owing to their own lean health. The sterilisation drive has to be accompanied by encouraging people to adopt more dogs from shelters - be it abandoned or Indie breed puppies - and give respite to these souls.

We need a collective effort to do something for our furry friends, and inducting Indie breed dogs in the Delhi Police Squad has the potential to trigger an over all development of the multitude of dogs living on the road, facing dangers from vehicles and inhuman people everyday.
