You- The people of Wyoming and the United States did it!   We narrowly averted the disaster of cutting off water flows to the Upper Snake River!   With the help of The State of Wyoming, The National Park Service, and Department of Interior officials along with amazing NGO support from the conservation community and  passioned citizens like you.  We have been guaranteed that the Upper Snake will see water flows out of Jackson Lake dam no less than 280 Cubic Feet a Second.

See the Joint Wyoming Game and Fish Department and Bureau of Reclamation Press Release HERE.

Below is the letter that has been sent along with the petition to the Department of Interior and other involved parties.

Thank you for your passioned support,

Honorable Deb Haaland,

On behalf of over 2,300 signatories (see attached) we wish to express deep gratitude for the work of the officials within the Department of Interior's (DOI) top offices and others,  for the assistance that ensured that minimum flows of 280 cfs are released from Jackson Lake Dam in Grand Teton National Park throughout the duration of 2023.  With over 2,300 signatures on our previous letter, this issue is of obvious concern of citizens and business interests who value a full functioning ecosystem and whose success is dependent on tourism, which revolves around nature and wildlife populations of the Greater YellowstoneEcosystem (GYE).

We appreciate you, listening to, and acting on, the concerns voiced by so many
members of the public, business interests, non profit entities, state and federal government officials.  We appreciate your role in implementing a short-term solution that will preserve the ecological, scenic and economic value of the area.

However, as stated in our letter, we are not only concerned about today. Without long-term, ecologically sound water management on the Upper Snake River focused on protecting our natural resources, economy and unique array of wildlife, we are concerned we will find ourselves fighting this same battle every year.

We ask that the Bureau of Reclamation and DOI  work more collaboratively with us, additional stakeholders, and state and federal agencies to design a long-term plan to ensure that minimum flow requirements for a healthy fishery and aquatic resource are met.   We also ask that you, the Secretary of the Interior, help us
create a vision of a sustainable future for our region. We need guarantees for long-term protection so that this type of management that doesn't consider the natural resource and economic impacts won’t happen again.

Thank you,

Concerned citizens and business interests of Wyoming and the greater United States of America
