We have recently learned of a plan to change 5641 Ridge Road, Mount Airy, Maryland into what is listed as "commercial kennel for more than 10 dogs, fairgrounds, and racetracks for dog competitions".  Challedon residents and many other local residents in Mount Airy are deeply concerned about the impact a large dog kennel and fairgrounds would have on our neighborhood. This development threatens the peace and safety of our community, affecting not just our homes but our lives.

The introduction of a dog kennel in close proximity to our homes threatens to introduce constant noise pollution. The barking of dogs can disrupt our daily lives, affecting our quiet evenings, sleep, and overall mental well-being. No assurances have been given on how to mitigate a loose dog crossing onto our properties potentially endangering our children or pets.  How will the dog feces be managed?

Fairgrounds, while recreational, bring crowds, noise, and significant public disturbance. Events held there will likely lead to an influx of visitors, heightening the risk of accidents, contributing to traffic congestion, and possibly leading to trespassing incidents on private properties.

The current business on the property has already struggled with controlling water runoff which ultimately affects the Chesapeake and manure containment, an effort nearby residents have complained about for years with little to no help from local government.  What efforts are the new potential owners doing to ensure the local ecosystem will be put in place and they be good neighbors to 150+ homes?

We need to urge local authorities to reconsider this plan and propose solutions that do not impinge on residential rights of peace and environmental health.  The impacts of this may ultimately affect our home values and peace of mind.

Please join us in opposing these zoning cases. Sign this petition to voice your opposition and safeguard our community's well-being.  We are also taking written statements to take to the hearing if you are able to join us that day.  Please email them to laura.p.almonte@gmail.com

Thank you for your support in keeping Challedon a great place to live.
