For some, adoption should be a exciting process, it usually means that you want to add a furry family member long term to your home. Weather it be through a reliable organization, a or reliable shelter. But in some cases, that's not how it goes. And i am starting a petition to change that. Recently we thought about adopting a dog, we thought this would be a simple process and put a lot of thought into doing this. Seems like its going good isn't it? Well that's where this becomes tricky, as an adopter you expect some level of respect from the people who you are adopting from, Did we get that, No we did not. Instead we got bashed, lost our money, and lost out on adopting a dog. Why? Because the organization HEARTS OF THE NORTH we adopted him from did not properly assess him for our home, which is ONE THING they should be doing as an organization. Instead, they had zero idea that I had adopted this dog and didn't bother to look at my application, I didn't sign any paperwork stating he was mine aside from an application which was apparently good enough for them, This dog was also heartworm positive, which is uncommon here in the states and he was on a medication called Invermectin Drench for Sheep, basically a medication for livestock which is a slow kill medication for heartworm and not the correct medication for him. These are all red flags, and I wasn't aware of them and fell victim to them. Later on, we found out that this isn't the first time this has happened. Multiple people messaged me with information saying they re-home aggressive dogs, which in turn made me do research. 3 news articles of dogs either killing a family pet, or having a history of bite aggression. One of my family's friends even had her family cat killed by a dog from this so called organization. I was HORRIFIED, when i found all this information out. The week before we got our dog, a dog died during transport, and instead of owning up to it, they blamed other volunteers, said they couldnt be weak and blamed the transport company they used and didn't address the situation which could have been TOTALLY PREVENTABLE. As an orginazation it is YOUR responsibility to correct these changes. This organization also wants you to decompress the dogs as they come from no kill shelters in the states. Decompression is extremely hard for adoptee's because they come from a shelter with barely any history of their temperament and behaviour, or personality. This organization blames past volunteers for their neglectful behaviour, they block adopters when they confront them, and don't even care about the dogs they are re-homing because if they did, they would be looking at applications, and properly assessing homes, they also don't help out any fosters and most of their fosters pay out of pocket for food, treats, bedding, and even vetting which can cost A LOT with these dogs. I'm making this petition because i am not the only one, but i am only one of MULTIPLE people who want this organization shut down for good. They are not licensed to do this, which is currently illegal in NS and NB as far as i'm aware, and they are currently being investigated for animal cruelty from the NB SPCA, the problem with that is, they don't have a physical address, so this makes the investigations very hard, and as well multiple keep backing them up because they think the good outweigh all the bad. I'm sorry, but here in NS and NB, we need tighter laws against this kind of behaviour and disregard for animal life, or they will keep continuing to do this and get away with it. These dogs deserve a chance and this is NOT the right way to do it so someone has to voice an opinion and speak out about these horrible things. The organization is called HEARTS OF THE NORTH, and unless something changes, they won't change their ways, instead they will bash you, verbally attack and bully you, and deny everything. Past volunteers have spoken up and gotten bullied because of it, and something has to change. PLEASE HELP SHUT THIS SO CALLED ORGANIZATION HEARTS OF THE NORTH DOWN FOR GOOD.
