No hemp farm on Duncan Hill Road

No hemp farm on Duncan Hill Road
The Issue
The owner of a property on Duncan Hill Road has indicated plans to use their land for industrial hemp farming. An industrial hemp farm in our community will negatively impact our quality of life and decrease property values in the area. There are instances in Baltimore County where the negative impact on surrounding residents of hemp farms has been realized. Residents reported strong odors, similar to that of dead skunks that cling to clothing and cause headaches. This article discusses the issues. https://www.baltimoresun.com/maryland/baltimore-county/cng-co-to-industrial-hemp-20200217-offz6gi6rrhmfjcqmzqhcdnl5a-story.html
In February 2020, Maryland State Senator Shelly Hettleman introduced a bill (HB0510) to prohibit hemp farming within 2 miles of residential communities with 10 or more residences. While the legislation did not pass during that general assembly, we must continue to take a stand against this type of farming in our communities.
The goal of this petition is to take our collective concerns to the Baltimore County Council, the Sparks Glencoe Community Planning Council, and the Maryland State Senate to proactively prevent hemp farming in our neighborhood.
We also encourage you to email the following people to express your concerns with hemp farming in such close proximity to residential property:
Baltimore County Councilman, Wade Kach at council3@baltimorecountymd.gov
Sparks Glencoe Community Planning Council at info@sgcpc.org
Maryland State Senator, Chris West at chris.west@senate.state.md.us
