Six Dead After Whales and Dolphins Moved Between Aquariums

Another beluga is dead following the mass relocation of whales and dolphins from Marineland Canada.
Caspian, a 27-year-old female beluga transferred to Chicago's Shedd Aquarium in August, died on Wednesday after several weeks of declining health. She is the sixth animal to die following the relocation. Four belugas have now died at Shedd Aquarium, while Jelly Bean, a beluga, and Echo, a dolphin, died at Oceanogràfic Valencia in September. The latest examinations have also revealed serious longstanding illnesses in several of the deceased whales.
The animals were moved because Marineland could no longer "care" for them. But transferring captive whales and dolphins between aquariums does nothing to end their exploitation.
Spain continues to permit cetacean captivity, including the importation of animals from other countries. Our petition demanding an end to dolphin and whale captivity in Spain has now reached 8,629 signatures. Please keep signing and sharing. These animals deserve more than a lifetime moving between concrete tanks.
