Another dolphin has died after being moved between marine parks. Rocky, a 29-year-old male dolphin, died overnight at Selwo Marina near Málaga, Spain.
Born in captivity in Madrid in 1997, Rocky was transferred to Marineland Antibes in France in 2011. When that park closed, he was transported back to Spain in July alongside seven other dolphins. Campaigners had already raised concerns about his deteriorating condition, describing him as isolated and severely weakened. His cause of death has not yet been established. Rocky's death follows several other recent deaths involving whales and dolphins transferred from closed marine parks in Canada to facilities in Spain and the United States. These animals have spent their lives being confined, transported and displayed for human entertainment.
Spain continues to allow this exploitation.
8,644 people have now signed our petition demanding a national ban on dolphin and whale captivity in Spain. Please keep signing and sharing. Rocky deserved better than a lifetime in captivity.
