If this historic attempt succeeds, it will prove that not only SpaceX but other private organizations can build their own spacecraft and venture out beyond the Earth's atmosphere. Whether or not SpaceX succeeds on this first attempt, only through endeavors of this nature can humankind learn to explore the rest of the universe.
