We are asking Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA), as a public body with a duty to act in the public interest, to approve the completion of the 4.75-mile unfinished section of the Ohio River Trail from Downtown Cincinnati to Lunken Airport.

We are asking Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA), as a public body with a duty to act in the public interest, to approve the completion of the 4.75-mile unfinished section of the Ohio River Trail from Downtown Cincinnati to Lunken Airport.
The Issue
What It Is:
- 4.75 miles of Trail on a multi-modal transportation corridor (utilizing one of the three Oasis Rail lines)
- 12’ wide path from the Wilmer-Carrel St. Trailhead (near Lunken) to The Boat House (along Riverside Drive)
- Designed and developed using best practices for rail-to-trail design (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association and the American Assn. of State Highway and Transportation Officials)
Benefits:
- Provide walkers, runners and cyclists a quick route to downtown free of crossroads and stop lights
- Increase development opportunities in the diverse neighborhoods adjacent to the trail
- Leverage our region’s most valuable natural resource – our beautiful river valleys
- Create another asset to attract young professionals and tourists to our city
- Connect to the 333 miles of the Ohio to Erie Trail
- Integrate with other regional transit systems including SORTA, TANK, Cincy Red Bike, and the Streetcar
How We Will Do It:
- The Ohio River Trail from Downtown to Lunken will be constructed primarily with private funding
- The Great Parks of Hamilton County organization will be the Builder and Maintainer of the Ohio River Way Trail
