Southwest, #MakeTheSwitch to Biodegradable Drink Cups
The Issue
Every year, Southwest Airlines uses 194,000,000 plastic Drink Cups on all their flights. That’s a very massive number, and it’s only growing larger.
In fact, if all these Cups were stacked on top of each other, that would be enough to reach all the way to Outer Space and come back 71 times!
Furthermore, it is very difficult to recycle these Drink Cups. This is because Cabin Waste from flights usually gets mixed into a single bag, and is left unsorted. As such, all these plastic Cups get thrown into landfills.
Drink Cups are made from a plastic called Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). This material takes around 450 years to degrade in landfills, breaking down into millions of Microplastics.
Southwest, we're asking you to start using Biodegradable Drink Cups on your flights! We're asking you to use Cups that can Compost naturally and fully return back to the earth.
Airlines like Frontier, HiFly, and Air New Zealand have already #MadeTheSwitch to Biodegradable Drink Cups on their flights, and so can Southwest!
Sign this petition to get Southwest Airlines to start using Biodegradable Cold Drink Cups on their flights. Let’s #ReimagineTheDrinkCup together.
For the sake of our planet, it's time to #StopTheMicroplastics. It's time to protect our earth and our home!
Thank you.
