Oppose Southwark Council's monstrous Queens Road Peckham planning proposals

Oppose Southwark Council's monstrous Queens Road Peckham planning proposals
The Issue
Southwark Council is planning to build a monstrous ‘super office’ slap bang in the heart of Queens Road, railroading residents and the local community for their own convenience.
JOIN THE FIGHTBACK, OBJECT TO SOUTHWARK COUNCIL’S BONKERS PROPOSALS:
- Kicking out users of the Asylum Road Day Care Centre and demolishing it
- Shoving 47,000 ft2 (4400 m2) of office space into the gap – in the heart of a residential neighbourhood
- Rising up to a monstrous 46 ft tall (14m), dominating the local area
- 390+ council staff on site a day using the office 24/7 and 1000+ visitors a week
WHY WE OBJECT TO THIS OVERDEVELOPMENT:
- Gross overcrowding of the area – and that’s before the completion of 333 flats at the nearby Wooddene estate
- The creation of a battle ground for pavement and parking space: during rush hour the area is already severely overcrowded with commuters getting to work and children making their way to school
- Lives in danger at Queens Road Peckham station: with its single narrow platform, single staircase and small single lift, the station will struggle to cope with so many more people each day. Our station is already overcrowded and becoming dangerous to use
- Adjacent flats and houses will be almost within touching distance of this three-storey monster, looking out at either huge towering walls or up at windows of office workers. They will be depressingly overshadowed, overlooked and enclosed
- Southwark Council’s sneaky planning approach: pushing this scheme through with undue haste and railroading the local community
- More noise
- More traffic
- More pollution
- More anti-social behaviour
WHAT WE ARE CALLING FOR:
- We welcome development of the site, but one which considers the character of the area and the quality of life of citizens
- We call on Southwark Council to radically re-think their proposals for Queens Road Peckham: far smaller, fewer people, green and public space for the community, design we can admire
All over Southwark, the council treats its electorate with contempt. It could happen anywhere in the borough, so together let’s make them hear our voice
