Help Chamberlain Acres! (Join together and stand up for a local business)
After being in business for 15 years Chamberlain Acres wanted to make upgrades to the business and build a 60- foot by 80-foot greenhouse. They needed the storage and had to bring in water, gas lines, and utility lines for the project.
They are the ONLY year round farmers market in the Elmira/Southport area. The market brings local farmers and suppliers in from all over the region. This offers the area locally grown organic fruit, vegetables, and meat options. Other vendors bring in locally sourced items as well: coffee, teas, honey, maple syrups, candles, fresh baked breads and pastries. This farmers market is all about supporting LOCAL business and is a great establishment for this area.
"We house a farmers market every Sunday here and it goes all winter long so it's an all-season type thing so by doing that that would allow me to have bathrooms," said Todd.
The Chamberlain Acres owner said he was told there were not many restrictions since he is a commercial property boarded by other commercial properties. He then went to the bank and got financing for the project. However, things have taken a turn because of the town planning board.
"I filled out an application for the 60X80 building I was notified within a couple of days of putting in the application that I had to come to get my application back because they changed their mind,” said Todd.
PLEASE HELP THIS LOCAL BUSINESS!!!! WHY IS THE TOWN BOARD TRYING TO STOP A LOCAL BUSINESS FROM IMPROVING AND OFFERING HEALTHY AND LOCAL OPTIONS TO OUR AREA? WHY DO THEY NOT WANT A FARMERS MARKET HERE? THIS IS AN ABUSE OF POWER AND WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY!!
