Dear friends of Save Mattituck Inlet,
You have made your voice heard with historic levels of community participation. Thank you! Hundreds of people attended and spoke at the public hearings and more than 1,000 pages of comments were submitted on the project’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). The overwhelming majority of comments pointed out the flaws, omissions, and inaccuracies of the DEIS.
As a result, Southold Town has hired a consultant to review all the community input and write a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), due August 21. The Planning Board can extend the final deadline.
The State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) requires that the Planning Board wait at least ten days after the filing of the FEIS before making their findings, which is the final step in the SEQRA process. Moving forward, it is critically important that we have an expert who can represent our interests. Save Mattituck Inlet has retained the services of attorney Reed Super, who has more than 30 years of experience in environmental law.
We are now launching a fundraising campaign to help pay for SMI’s legal expenses. To kickstart this effort, the SMI Steering Committee has already pledged nearly $20,000 toward our $50,000 goal.
We hope you will join us by making a tax-deductible donation today. Your gift will be used to stop Strong's yacht warehouse project and to protect Mattituck Inlet now and preserve it into the future.
As SMI waits for approval for 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status from the IRS, please make your donation through our fiscal agreement with Group for the East End, an environmental conservation organization founded in 1972. You may donate online or send a check. Please note: The online donation form has a specific section for SMI donations.
Or, you can make your check payable to Group for the East End, write “SMI” in the memo, and mail to:
