Southern Islands Hospital was established in 1913 and was widely known all over the Visayas and Mindanao for almost seventy five years until it was changed to it's present name on June 21, 1992 by virtue of RA 7582. The change was unnecessary and improper not only because there was no public hearing conducted but also because there exists no significant relation between the facility and the person in whose honor and memory is so named. Renaming it to its original name of Southern Islands Hospital will be preserving a significant cultural heritage that it has generated for the people and the rich experience it has shared with the community.
