SIU School of Medicine: Stop the New Logo and Colors

The Issue

It is not news to any of you that the SIU School of Medicine has abruptly issued a "rebranding" and opted to change both its logo and school colors. This change was decided upon by select individuals within the SIU Healthcare organization, none of which have ever attended the school of medicine. In the absence of a state budget, this move is financially supported by SIU Healthcare and cost will surely effect the system as a whole.

It has also been apparent to many that the goal of creating a unique image through "rebranding" has severely backfired. The new logo attempts to exert progressiveness by joining that of the many tech companies and hotel chains started over the years. Similarly, the new colors are also already taken by medical schools within Illinois itself. Ironically, our brand was previously unique to centers of higher learning and instead of trying to improve upon our existing logo it has been disregarded entirely.

This new logo and color does not represent any of the innovation or uniqueness which SIU School of Medicine has sought to accomplish over the years.  The greater SIU community believes any new directions should reflect the tradition, prestige and commitment to higher education. For 50 years the people have associated that green with the school of medicine, its history of medical education and its mission to assist the people of central and southern Illinois in meeting their health care needs. To many of us, the SIU School of Medicine represents more than a business venture, it represents our legacy as healthcare providers. It's our hope that this petition will act to unite the unheard majority of voices who strongly disagree with the adoption of this "rebranding".
