New Marlborough School Changes

New Marlborough School Changes
The Issue
Have you heard about what is happening at the New Marlborough Central School? If you have not its not surprising as the district administration decided to make big changes there without discussing it with the community or teachers. When the decision was made they did not communicate it the families, who found out through rumor. Next year there will be no more 4th Grade at NMC. Reasons cited are need for early childhood education (which is a true real need), the difficulties of mixed grade classrooms, and that 4th graders need a more age appropriate experience to prepare them for middle school. While we must consider the need for early childhood education and work for creative solutions, the other points simply do not hold up with the lived experience of the teachers and families at NMC. Teachers and families are discouraged by the district's lack of transparency and decision making style. How can they make such a big decision without any input from he teachers and students this impacts? Please sign this petition to demand that the Southern Berkshire Administration take the time to consider what is being lost with this change and listen to the voice of the teachers and students this impacts the most. Our community school and their dedicated teachers have been a gem in these turbulent times we cannot let the creative and nurturing environment be chiseled away at. History shows us that the district does not value all the magic that happens in their small schools and we must fight to keep them open and thriving in a way that serves the goal of the community and teachers and not the administrations agenda.
