Support Southern Baptist Convention Sexual Abuse Survivors

Support Southern Baptist Convention Sexual Abuse Survivors
The Issue
We support and stand with Southern Baptist Convention sexual abuse survivors represented by Jules Woodson, Dave Pittman, Hannah-Kate, Anne Marie Miller, Tiffany Thigpen, Megan Lively, Christa Brown and Jennifer Lyell who issued joint statement on June 13, 2021 strongly urging that immediate action be taken as follows:
1. SBC Messengers at the 2021 annual meeting must support Rev.Todd Benkert's motion to hire an outside investigation team.
2. The Executive Committee and Credentials Committee should be investigated and must provide full access to data and information.
4. The Executive Committee commits to release any final Guidepost investigation report to the public without redaction except for the protection of personal identifying information of abuse survivors.
5. Future investigations or audits regarding sexual abuse within the SBC must include the services of GRACE (Godly Response to Abuse in Christian Environments).
Survivors have been asking for meaningful reform since the mid-1980s. Time's up. It's time for the 16,000 messengers at the SBC's 2021 Annual Meeting to take action. Passing resolutions is fine, but ACTION is what is needed.
