Southchurch High School like a prison not a school

The Issue

My son is a SEND child and is one among the many children at Southchurch High School who are feeling its harsh and unreasonable rules. The school has started to enforce a regime resembling that of a prison, where children are mandated to move silently between classes. Any whisper or small conversation results in them being punished with detention.

It’s heart-breaking to see not only SEND children but also neurotypical children struggling under a set of rules that seem to oppress rather than nurture their growth and creativity. Education should be about creating an environment where children feel free to express themselves, learn through interaction, and grow into well-rounded individuals. Silent transitions do nothing but instill fear and resentment.

The objective of this petition is to urge Southchurch High School to reconsider these extreme measures and adopt an approach that is more conducive to learning and mental well-being. Conversations and interaction among students are vital for their development and understanding of the world around them.

There are numerous other schools that have created successful environments without draconian rules. Encouraging dialogue and engagement, these schools empower students to learn collaboratively, fostering skills that are critically important in the real world.

We need to prioritize the well-being and educational growth of our children. We ask Southchurch High School administration to reevaluate these policies and seek input from both parents and educational experts to create a balanced approach that supports all students, including those with special educational needs.

Please sign this petition to support a change towards a more caring and educative environment for our children, where their voices are not just heard but also valued.
