Deny the Demolition Request of 436 Gin Lane.

The Issue

This 1893 home is an original Southampton Village cottage colony house. It is a rare surviving example of the Stick Style and in 1951 it received an addition designed by Philip Johnson for Mr. & Mrs. Henry Ford II. Philip Johnson was a very prominent American modernist architect who was behind several world recognized structures such as The Glass House, the Lever House, and the Seagram Building. 436 Gin Lane satisfies several, if not all, of the village's criteria for landmark designation. It is also a documented contributing resource within a historic district. This is a valuable piece of architecture to the community and an important cultural resource to the greater region. Property on Gin Lane is highly sought after and does not come on the market often. There are approximately 35 surviving historic structures on Gin Lane, and this property is one of them - and one of the most significant. This home should not be permitted to be demolished.
