All who sign this petition call on Southampton FC to formally request the FA withdraw from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022 due to the horrific human rights abuses perpetrated in order to host the event.

Over 6,500 people have died working to create the infrastructure needed to host the World Cup in Qatar, with migrant workers having their passports taken from them and being forced to live in inhumane conditions. Full details can be read in the links below from Amnesty International and The Guardian.

As football fans we of course look forward to any World Cup, however we are human beings first and there has to be a line somewhere. If the death of thousands of enslaved labourers does not cross it, what does? It really is that simple.

Organisers of events such as these, now and in the future, cannot be allowed to act in such a way without fear of consequences. The granting of basic human rights must be incentivised.

It's easy to be defeatist about these things, but there really is something that can be done. We don't have to take part. Boycotts work and put huge pressure on others to follow suit and incentivise institutions to change their practices.

As supporters of Southampton FC we insist our club take a stand, as those in Norway have, and urge our national footballing body to refuse to endorse this event via our national team's presence.
