Works occuring on the Northam Bridge in Southampton is causing long delays to peoples journeys. The council have suggested that people "find an alternative route" but have neglected to note that the only method to cross from one side of the town to the other is over a bridge.

There is Woodmill (a tiny mill bridge which is only able to have three cars in either directon on it at any one time), Cobden bridge which is already pretty slow moving or the Itchen Toll bridge which is pretty quiet due to people wanting to avoid the toll.

They could suspend the toll for the time that the work is being done, and use the period as a test case for removing the toll completely.  The bridge has now been paid for many times over.

Personally I shall continue to cycle around town as I always have, however there seems to be a lot of drivers on here http://bit.ly/1AAnyOT who are very frustrated by these works and who seem to have no alternative to using the Northam bridge.

Please sign and try and put pressure on the council to either plan these works better (evening/night work or during school holidays when there is next to no traffic) or offer residents an option of using the toll bridge for the duration of the works.
