South West Railway Investment: Closing The Gap

GOVERNMENT INVESTMENT IS NEEDED TO UPDATE OUR RAILWAY FOR OUR FUTURE GROWTH

SW Rail Investment for Our Future

This petition is calling on our local MP's - Johnny Mercer and Luke Pollard - to seek Government commitment to invest in our SW railway system and, in turn, invest in the future of the South West.

Closing the gap is the Peninsula Rail Task Force plan to achieve Government investment in our rail network. With this investment, we have the potential for huge growth in the South West.

The investment is vital so that we do not see the disruption to rail services as seen in 2014. This caused big losses to our businesses in Plymouth and throughout the SW.

With investment we will achieve:

  • Resilience and Reliability
  • Faster Journey Times
  • Improved Connectivity with Sufficient Capacity and Comfort

Fairness for The South West

The National average for Government spend per head is £98. And the average Government spend for the SW, just £35! Why?

“We are asking for better trains that run in stormy weather so that the services can go past Dawlish and into the rest of Devon and Cornwall without worrying about conditions. Plymouth is a thriving city with over 200,000 residents, many of whom have to deal with already unreliable trains daily. We should aim higher, not take steps back to 1980s.”
