  • We are running this petition in the hope that South Tyneside Council will recognise the importance of safe crossings on Galsworthy Road of South Shields opposite the Whiteleas Park. Local residents  have raised the issue for years without success so our aim is to get as many signatures as possible to show that this is a united concern for those living in the area, those who use the area, and for those who have family & friends in the area. There are currently small islands in the middle of the road which is not a sufficient space for the safety of people wishing to cross, especially those in wheelchairs, with bikes or prams. The speed limit is currently 30mph on this stretch and with numerous accidents and near misses over the years it has proven time and time again that the measures in place are not adequate. This proposal for safe crossing is important because it allows local residents, (including children crossing to the park) to cross safely  . Please help us get as many signatures as possible to present this for consideration to the council.
