Residents 4 A Better Chard

Residents 4 A Better Chard
The Issue
Residents want development to provide a better Chard. The 'Chard Eastern Development Area (CEDA)’ promised not just housing but new schools, doctor's surgeries and an appropriate relief road.
With the proposal for development between Forton and Tatworth Roads, this amounts to 45% of the planned housing and ZERO percent of the infrastructure and amenities. Even the proposed road on this site is not appropriate for use as a relief road. The proposed housing density and style is not in character with existing properties.
The proposals significantly underestimate the effect of all this housing development on Chard’s traffic and the additional pressure on existing schools and clinics.
We call upon South Somerset District Council (SSDC) to stand by their Local Plan for Chard and to ensure that developers deliver the infrastructure that was promised, not just housing development after housing development. We also call upon SSDC to conduct a detailed independent traffic study to assess the impact of any further housing developments before further applications are approved.
Please join us in expressing your support for 'A Better Chard’ and encouraging Councillors to do all they can to protect and improve our town.
The Facebook group - 'Residents 4 A Better Chard PUBLIC GROUP’ has been launched and will feature all the latest developments and keep you updated on the planning process.
