Highly social mammals like elephants should not be used for entertainment purposes. Animals aren't actors. They should not be forced to perform silly, confusing tricks under the threat of physical punishment. They should not be transported from town to town in cramped and stuffy boxcars or semi-truck trailers. They should not be kept chained or caged in barren, boring, and filthy enclosures. They should not be separated from their families and friends—all for the sake of human “entertainment.” Even Ringling Bros has realized that the public tide of opinion has shifted and has pledged to phase elephants out of their acts. Please set a better example for the children of South Riding.
