South Park School District has proposed making sweeping cuts to district staff and educational programs due to lost revenue resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. While this is reasonable in light of the circumstances, one of the proposed resources to be eliminated is the high school’s library and its librarian, as well as possibly middle school and elementary center library cuts. This is an unreasonable solution, as the existence and operation of a library is at the heart of every educational institution. The library is used in more than just checking out books, it is a place for creations and tutoring as well. The removal of library services in South Park Schools would certainly deter families looking to move to our community, and will lower the value of a South Park education.
