South Lyon Residents Demand a No-Knock Registry and Enforcement of ‘No Soliciting’ Signs

The Issue

South Lyon families, retirees, and remote workers are increasingly interrupted by door-to-door solicitors who ignore clearly posted “No Soliciting” signs. In the past year, more and more homes across our neighborhoods have added these signs — yet solicitors continue to knock, sometimes multiple times a day and even after dusk.

Parents with sleeping babies, people working from home, and seniors who value quiet time are all affected. Despite our best efforts to signal “no thank you,” the City of South Lyon currently offers no No-Knock Registry or meaningful enforcement to protect residents who want privacy.

Every ignored sign chips away at our comfort, safety, and peace in our own homes. A city-wide No-Knock Registry, with fines or permit suspensions for violators, would allow residents to officially opt out and restore respect for personal boundaries.

Neighboring Michigan communities already have similar protections. It’s  time for South Lyon to do the same. With more families home during evenings and daylight hours fading earlier, the need for enforcement is urgent. Let’s ensure that “No Soliciting” truly means no and that our community values peace, safety, and family time.
