Petition updateSouth Korea, Torturer of Dogs and Host of the 2017 World Veterinary Congress?! Speak Out!22,000-Plus Signatures Delivered to the WVA!
Stop the Dog and Cat Meat Trade Worldwide
Aug 17, 2017
Dear Supporters,
First of all, thank you again for signing, sharing and promoting this petition. With the 2017 World Veterinary Association (WVA) Congress just over a week away, I have delivered the 22K-plus signatures to the WVA Veterinary Policy Officer, Dr. Zeev Noga and the WVA Executive Secretary, Jan Vaarten, DVM. Along with the signatures, I’ve sent the letter below (“LETTER SENT TO WVA”), which includes a link to a video documentary released by Nami Kim, "Rescue of 300 Dogs From Dog Meat Farm", also linked below. I hope they watched this video from start to finish.
Although the WVA have thus far refused to let Nami Kim and Dr. Myung present medical facts and data about the South Korean Dog Meat Trade during the Congress, as we have requested several times, I think this petition has been successful in other respects:
- Getting the attention of the WVA. They can see how important ending the Dog Meat Trade is to thousands of people who have signed.
- Notifying and educating the Veterinary professionals speaking at the conference (by direct email), that the cruel and hazardous South Korean Dog Meat Trade is a threat to public health and must be outlawed. They will be flying to South Korea from all over the world, knowing that hellish dog meat farms are not far from the Congress venue in Incheon.
- Spreading awareness of the South Korean Dog Meat Trade to the general public, including the veterinary community worldwide. Whenever you share or promote the petition, you spread more awareness of The Vile Trade - this will have reached some veterinarians, nurses and students, opening their eyes.
With that said, this project is not finished yet. Once the 2017 Congress is over, and before closing the petition, I will be delivering the total signatures to the WVA once again and asking what they plan to do to address the issue of the highly cruel and toxic South Korean Dog Meat Trade. Stand by and do nothing?
We must continue to ask, "How can veterinarians worldwide, who are supposed to be the greatest care takers of animals, let so many dogs suffer in misery, filth, agony and torture, just for someone's dog meat soup?"
Thank you,
-- Jenny Wilkins

LETTER SENT TO WVA
Dear Zeev and WVA, (including Nami Kim of Save Korean Dogs),
Thank you in advance for your continued respectful communications and dialog with myself, on behalf of activists worldwide and South Korean animal rights activist, Nami Kim, who are working to ban the South Korean Dog Meat Trade. I truly appreciate the cordial replies you have provided in past months regarding our petition, which now has over 22,000 supporters: https://www.change.org/p/south-korea-torturer-of-dogs-and-host-of-the-2017-world-veterinary-congress-speak-out.
I attach the latest signatures for the petition against holding the 2017 WVA Congress in South Korea, which also urges the global veterinary community to speak out against the cruel, hazardous and highly illegal Dog Meat Trade during the conference itself to spread awareness and bring change. In this industry, an estimated 15,000 of 17,000 dog meat farms are operating without a license, in the cruellest and filthiest conditions imaginable.
Our polite request to you is that you please view the attached video documentary (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MfhbHWGjD4&feature=youtu.be) and arrange for a presentation of the video during the conference, ideally the Global Seminar on Animal Welfare. Nami Kim and Dr. Myung can present the video and take questions after. They have many years of hands on experience dealing with dogs of the meat trade.
I would love to close this petition and notify all those who have signed (just one quick email) that the WVA has agreed to share a short documentary on the South Korean Dog Meat Trade, and is thus taking the matter of the South Korean Dog Meat Trade very seriously.
Please Zeev, for the millions of abused and tortured dogs in this trade, standing in waste on wire floors, thirsty, hungry, diseased, suffering, would you please arrange for this video to be shown during the Congress?
Many thanks and kind regards,
Jenny Wilkins
