Savannah Hobbie started this petition to South Carolina Legislature

At Furman University in Greenville, S.C., the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council are calling upon the South Carolina Legislature to change the current hazing laws in place.

Current hazing laws in South Carolina, regardless of if serious bodily injury or death occurs, results in a misdemeanor for the contributing parties with "a fine not to exceed five hundred dollars or by imprisonment for a term not to exceed twelve months, or both."

We are asking that the South Carolina Legislature reconsider this law and call for any hazing incident that results in serious bodily injury or death to be a felony in the State of South Carolina.

Nationally, over 250 lives have been lost as a result of hazing. With stronger laws in place, we can prevent that number from increasing and prevent organizations from hazing.

We would like to dedicate this petition to those who have lost their lives to hazing and to the loved ones impacted by acts of hazing. We stand with you.
