The residents of South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridge City Council had their Green Bin service stopped on March 23rd 2020, without any warning or consultation.

Huntingdon, East Cambs and Fenland District Councils have NOT stopped their green bin services.

Government rules and advice states for all residents to stay at home in order to reduce the incidence and spread  of the Coronavirus for at least a further 3 weeks.

Working in a garden is a perfect way to relieve the stress and boredom of having to stay at home but this activity will of course add to the volume of green waste created. 

There is concern too about food waste that would normally be disposed of in the green bin.

This stopping of the green bin collection has the potential for an increase in pests including flies and rats. It also could increase fly tipping and anti social behaviour such  as garden bonfires affecting neighbours.

Those signing this petition ask that the two local authorities who operate the joint waste service for both South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge residents immediately reinstate the green bin waste collections.
