Stop the ‘Alexandrina Council’ from banning boats from our coastline

We operate ‘The Big Duck Boat Tours’ from Victor Harbor - running small group, nature-based eco-tourism experiences focussed on wildlife (Seal, Dolphins, Whales, Seabirds) and the awe inspiring sea & landscapes of the southern coastline of South Australia.
A proposal has been adopted by the Alexandrina Council to “BAN ALL MOTORISED VESSELS” for 6-months of every year between Victor Harbor (Hindmarsh River Mouth) all the way to the Murray Mouth in the Coorong (over 50 sq km).
This BAN will effect ‘The Big Duck Boat Tours’, ‘Surf Lifesaving Clubs’, ‘Recreational Boat Users’, ‘Fishers’, ‘Water/Ocean based Events’ and anyone wanting to use a boat along the south coast.
If this ban was to come into effect the viability of our business will be compromised, tourism jobs will be lost and Lifesaving Clubs will be unable to train or host events.
The ban has been presented to protect Whales that visit our coastline to birth and nurse their calves from 1st May - 31st October each year. A noise study presented uses evidence from a busy international shipping way to suggest whales react negatively and move away from vessel engine noise. We strongly believe that this study does not reflect our quiet coastline and that the boat users of our region adhere to stringent approach distances and restrictions already in place that protect whales. We love whales and want to protect and educate people about these amazing marine mammals.
PLEASE HELP US - sign our petition to stop the state government from banning boats, banning The Big Duck & banning Surf Lifesaving from using our coastline.
