Support the National Command Council on COVID-19 decision to ban the sale of cigarettes
Why this petition matters

On 29 April 2020, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma announced that cigarettes will still not be allowed to be sold at level four of the nation-wide lockdown in South Africa. This announcement was made after careful consideration by the National Command Council on COVID-19 and government received over 2000 submissions from the public opposing the sale of tobacco products. To date the National Command Council on COVID-19 Chaired by President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma who made the announcement as custodian of the National Disaster Act have been under attack for saving the lives of ordinary South Africans. This petition is intended to send a clear message to tobacco lobby groups and those opposed to the ban on cigarette sales that we the people of South Africa are fully behind President Ramaphosa, Minister Dlamini-Zuma and the National Command Council on COVID-19. We will not be intimidated or shaken in our conviction in fighting the spread of COVID-19. Working together is the only way we will flatten the curve in South Africa. Let's unite!
