Problem
On the 2nd of December 2018. Fellow South Africans, Global Ambassadors and Change Makers of different social, economical and environmental backgrounds attended the Global Citizen Festival hosted at the FNB Stadium in Soweto Johannesburg South Africa. As a Global Citizen and more specifically as a South African, the experiences that many of us were put through due to the complete lack of security within the times of the festival and after has left many individuals traumatized beyond measure. The SAPS presence at the festival and surrounding areas was disappointing to say the least. Incidents such as Rape, attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault and victimization occurs within the premises of the FNB Stadium as well as surrounding areas like SASOL Ormonde. As a result of these incidents, we understand that there has been a complete failure in precautionary measures that were supposed to take place for people attending the festival as well as people not attending the festival. Due to this lack of regard for safety not only at the festival but rather within the borders of South Africa it has left many people of different backgrounds with a complete distrust and scepticism in the South African Police Services as a result of the failure of individuals to competently do their jobs.

Solution
We understand that it has been put forward, that many people who have personally been harmed due to the lack of security, should come forward and lay charges as well as write statements. However we feel that this is insufficient. In a country where women are targeted daily by rapists, where muggings occur in broad daylight and where criminals roam the streets freely. It is imperative that South African Government Officials, Global Citizen Events Management, FNB Stadium Management, Global Citizens and fellow South Africans stand together and say Enough is Enough. Too many people die at the hands of violence and no one is being help accountable for it. Due to this utter lack of accountability, not only do we ask Government Officials to take action, we also ask that necessary actions be taken against those who have not fulfilled their duty in protecting the citizens of South Africa. This includes Police Officers who were on duty around the areas of the FNB Stadium as well as the SASOL Ormonde area where hundreds of people were targeted. We also firmly request that there should not only be an acknowledgment of the events but a public statement should be made by President Cyril Ramaphosa as to actions that the government is going to implement that will protect each and every individual within the country that experiences the violence, rape and trauma on a daily basis, not only due to criminals but to the same guilty individuals that see a crime being committed, have the power to do something about it and do absolutely nothing.
