Letter to
Chief of Explosives South African Government
I just signed the following petition addressed to: South African Government.

----------------
Ban Fireworks

There are no benefits to be derived from Fireworks other than that of entertainment. Fireworks do have many undesirable effects including disruption of community peace and quiet, terrifying of domestic animals (contrary to the Animals Protection Act), pollution of the environment and waste of money. The legitimacy of the use of fireworks for religious purposes is questionable.

We therefore demand that Government ban fireworks. They are a destructive, unnecessary and primitive method of celebrating that has too many downsides - society pays too heavily for this dubious privilege. We believe this should be National legislation since there is no good reason to allow regions autonomy in this respect.

Whether this is achieved through banning imports of fireworks, tougher legislation or policing, we insist that the outcome is that fireworks no longer invade public privacy and peace.
