All animals have inherent value. Canned hunting is the situation of African lions being "bred for the bullet." The lions are bred in captivity, taken from their mothers immediately after birth. They are pet by tourists at "Cub Petting" zoos in order for them to become comfortable around humans. Their adolescence consists of another tourist activity referred to as "Walking with Lions." Once the lions reach adulthood, wealthy tourists can pay to hunt the lions in small enclosures. The tourists are safe as the lions have been brought up being comfortable and trusting of human beings. The lions are shot at close range and brought home as "trophies." The number of wild lions has been dropping for years, and if the cruel exploitation of the species continues through canned hunting we will lose the African lion.
