Why this petition matters

Started by K O

On December 2nd, 2019, SoundCloud sent the following message to content creators.

"Starting today, every SoundCloud creator will be able to upload, store and download their original lossless HD files. This feature set was previously only available to Pro Unlimited subscribers. You can learn why uploading lossless HD files is an important way for you to protect your work here.

To make lossless HD file management free to all, starting December 9th, our free upload limit will change from 3 hours of audio, to 3 hours or 15 tracks. This will not impact existing uploads. Learn how this change might affect you at our Help Center."

The average song length is around 3 minutes. This decision would restrict most artists to be able to upload only 45 minutes of content rather than 3 hours, seriously hindering their creativity.

"If you are on a Pro or Pro Unlimited plan and downgrade to a free plan after December 9th, and your account has more tracks than what is available in the free (Basic plan), your oldest tracks will become hidden from listeners."

So even if you aren't releasing songs, just to keep past songs from disappearing, SoundCloud wants you to pay $12 a month.

Add your voice to show SoundCloud how wrong it is to limit artists with monetary gates instead of creating an open platform for young talent to grow and express themselves.
