Victory Dance for the Graham Street Station

Hi all,
I know the election was on Tuesday, but I'm always nervous about doing a victory dance too early with mail-in ballots. So, even though the Let's Move Seattle folks were cheering on Tuesday night, I was only guardedly optimistic.
Today, however, after the Thursday night vote count, it seems 100% prudent to send you all a thank you and note of congratulations! Many organizations (Transportation Choices Coalition, Puget Sound Sage, OneAmerica, Filipino Community Center, and others) worked hard to bring attention to the transit needs of our community, but the signatures and comments on the petition you signed were critical early energy and validation for the Graham Street Station. You helped get a very heavy boulder rolling, and we now have $10 million committed from the City of Seattle to start permitting, planning, and land acquisition for a light rail station in our neighborhood.
Two years ago we were told that the station would never happen.
People, it's gonna' happen!
Of course, there's still plenty of work to do to secure the rest of the funding that the station needs, but getting started is the hardest part, and we've got that covered now.
I am now as excited as Shefali Ranganathan was at the Let's Move Seattle election night party! If you need a little pick-me-up this morning, check out the attached photo of Shefali and her victory stance. It makes me smile.
Again, thank you, and for all of us: HURRAY!
Warmly,
Karen Uffelman
