Thank you all for your amazing support! After a protracted dispute with Servest regarding its contract at Sotheby's (namely London Living Wage, sick pay, and the removal of Barbara and Percy ("the Sotheby's 2") from the Sotheby's premises at Sotheby's request), a resolution to the satisfaction of all parties concerned has been reached and our campaign at Sotheby's has been finally brought to a close. We are very pleased to report that as part of the resolution all outsourced staff at Sotheby's including cleaners and security guards are now currently earning the London Living Wage, plus they now receive occupational sick pay (OSP), replacing the provision of statutory sick pay (SSP). The provision of OSP means that they will still be paid their salary for an agreed period of time if they cannot work due to illness or injury. Previously on SSP they were constrained to work when sick because SSP only provides £35 for the first week off work and then £88 per week from thereon in. Sotheby's cleaners and security guards are now the first group of outsourced workers in the private sector in the United Kingdom to receive OSP and we have therefore made history. We wish to thank you all for your amazing support. You made a high difference! Please also consider supporting the trade union United Voices of the World (UVW) which led the campaign at Sotheby's. Despite surviving on a shoe-string budget and having no paid officials UVW have still won well over £100, 000 in compensation at Employment Tribunals for their members, some of the most vulnerable workers in society, and secured the Living Wage for hundreds of workers across London as well as numerous other victories. However, we could do so much more with just a little extra money including running more educational workshops, expanding our outreach and helping finance our campaigns. This year alone we have already launched a living wage campaign for our members at Topshop, which is the first living wage campaign in the fashion retail sector in the UK and we will shortly be launching living wage campaigns at the Science Museum, The Daily Mail, John Lewis and other prestigious sites across London.
