SOS...Save Our Steelhead

SOS...Save Our Steelhead
The Issue
British Columbia is home to the greatest specie of Steelhead...in the world! Let me repeat that...IN THE WORLD! Our beloved Steelhead is now on life support! We need your help to Save Our Steelhead...SOS!
So where can we find this magnificent creature? What, where and why?
Our Wild Thompson River Steelhead for decades brought millions of dollars into Canada, into British Columbia in search of a fishing experience like no other. Those millions of dollars have turned into ZERO dollars!
Names like Hemmingway and Tolstoy came to Spences Bridge (our little village of 150) hoping to "hook up" with this spectacular beast...the wild Thompson River Steelhead. Weighing in at over 32 pounds, it is the biggest and arguably most powerful Steelhead on Earth!
Every year, droves of fisherman would come to our little community in October, knowing they may not even get a nibble from this great fish. Even though Provincial regulations dictate the Steelhead be released. Hooking a wild Thompson River Steelhead is a fishing experience like no other! The core of this annual parade of fisherman became part of our Spences Bridge "Fishing Family"! We miss them... This "Best of Class" fishery...now on life support...has possibly been given an opportunity by Mother Nature at this moment of time!
How might that be you say?
On November 15th, 2021 heavy rains, combined with a wildfire that burnt the village of Lytton to the ground set the stage for 1200 year, Nicola River flooding event that swallowed everything in it's path. Homes, loss of livestock, loss of a life and we lost our only road home. We couldn't go home.
The Nicola River, habitat for salmon and steelhead was changed forever. In 2025 the permanent rebuild of Highway 8 (that straddles the Nicola River) is set to begin. Out of this tragic story there can be a happy ending. Mother Nature taketh away but Mother Nature may giveth back with your help.
Mother Nature has opened a door that most had thought was closed forever. We need to pass through this door of opportunity together.
Habitat...shade trees, spawning beds, water temperature and more.
The equipment, the experts will be on site for possibly two years rebuilding the highway AND hopefully the river.
Please share this with our American, Japanese, European, Asian and of course Canadian fishing family...for our children, grandchildren and generations to come! Please share, share, share!
The moment in time is Now!
