"SOS", Save Our Shops! and stop the Introduction of Parking Charges in Birstall
The Issue
Attention neighbors! Our peaceful streets are about to face an unwelcome guest: PARKING CHARGES. Imagine having to pay every time you park in your own town! We can't let this happen. My friends and associates own shops and businesses on our shopping street. The proposed parking charges by our local council threaten their livelihoods by potentially reducing the number of people shopping there.
Our small town thrives on its local economy. The introduction of parking charges could deter customers from visiting, leading to decreased footfall and revenue for these businesses. In similar situations elsewhere, such as in Morpeth, Northumberland where parking charges were introduced in 2013, there was a reported 12% decrease in footfall (source: Morpeth Herald). We cannot let this happen to Birstall.
The proposed parking charges not only affect business owners but also residents who rely on these services for their daily needs. This decision seems more like desperation than an initiative that benefits the community.
We urge the local council to reconsider this decision and explore other avenues for generating funds that do not harm small businesses or inconvenience residents.
Please sign this petition if you believe in supporting our local economy and maintaining Birstall's vibrant community spirit.
