Dear Proud MDC Alumnus,
Miami Dade College is in trouble. Will you help?
The newly appointed Miami Dade College Board of Trustees decided to abruptly stop the entire search process for a new MDC president to replace Dr. Eduardo Padrón. This news caught all of us by surprise and has placed the integrity of the process into question.
A 17-member presidential search committee, comprised of outstanding stakeholders, spent months screening potential candidates. After 500 inquiries and 50 applications, the committee recommended four qualified candidates. It was time for one of these qualified academic leaders to take the baton from Eduardo.
However, there were other plans apparently in play. The Miami Herald proclaimed, “We Smell a Rat.” After the search committee was dismissed, the new trustees scrapped the entire process and took the matter solely into their own hands—-without any oversight or stakeholder collaboration.
Scores of students, faculty, and community leaders have voiced their outrage over this illegitimate maneuver and are demanding the trustees reinstate the original process and choose a president from the four finalists. They are standing up to assure the selection is not an inside political game.
Now it’s time for the alumni to weigh in.
We come together as longtime and recent alumni, including those of us who are proud MDC Hall of Fame recipients, to preserve the integrity of the College. We will not tolerate the undermining of MDC —not on our watch!
We ask you to help in 3 simple ways :
1. Sign our community petition to Save MDC. Let the Board of Trustees know the transparent process must be reinstated.
2. Attend the next public meeting of the Board of Trustees. Alumni voices must be heard. August 29 at 9 am in Room 2106 at Wolfson Campus, 300 NE 2nd Ave.
3. Get more involved. If we can count on you to help save the integrity of MDC, please simply respond to this email.
