The Issue

On December 10th of 2021, I was wrongfully banned AGAIN, due to a baseless report and ANOTHER lackluster review by Sony PlayStation Network (PSN). I was sent an expletive filled, degrading, vicious insult via direct message by a person (otherwise unknown until this point) as a result of an in-game encounter, usually the result of being a sore loser. Initially, the message was ignored. However, these messages were repeated until I responded. Naturally, I did not respond in kind. I typed five letters..."TRASH" without using any cursing, aggressive, racial or otherwise hateful epithets. Yet, this was enough to get my account suspended from accessing online play/interaction for 30 days. A month suspension for a one syllable, five letter word without any clarification on what was meant by the word "Trash", only a spiteful, petty report by a stranger and an assumption by PSN, without the proper review of the conversation's transcript in its entirety to see what actually transpired.

This is unacceptable, but this is not where my biggest complaint arises. The most reprehensible part is that PSN, in addition to preventing online access, they also prevent the access of games that were already purchased on my account! Yes, they prohibit the use and/or access of purchases made on the account for offline use as well. I can no longer access the games in my library that were already purchased until the suspension is over. All of this because the same person that initiated the conversation via direct messaging decided to use the PSN report function that permits a person to report a singular message. Essentially, this means that a person can not only initiate the messages, but continue to harass a person, belittle a person, and report a response in a singular fashion, leaving the potential for suspension and banishment from the same transcript. This is double jeopardy! Calling PSN and explaining the situation is pointless as well. They only recommend that you report the other person first. A very ridiculous proposition at best... Most aren't even willing to use or are even aware of this juvenile, dysfunctional report function. Regardless, PSN should NOT have the authority to remove/restrict access to a service that is already paid for (being online access via PSN Plus) and lock access to game purchases in your library for even offline consumption. This is unacceptable, especially for something so poorly managed.

PSN works in a very nonsensical, misjudged, incomprehensible manner in regard to their pointless, micromanaged policing of the direct messaging system that is too often erroneous. The current system lacks transparency, responsibility, and encourages lack of accountability as long as you "tell" first. I demand that they either cease this policing, provide more transparency to the decision making process, or stop allowing messages in the first place! Typing/talking (of any nature) via messages should not allow PSN the authority to limit use of items already purchased without providing a refund on said items, period! They are only able to do this on digital purchases of games and other items. PSN needs to be stopped from abusing their power to limit and/or remove access of individual's purchases without transparency, proper justification, or consequence!
