Before I get inundated with emails telling me the news: yes, I am aware that TheFlow released the his new 3.70 exploit chain a few days ago. His new method is very similar to h-encore, only this must first download a PSP demo or game, preferably a free demo. You simply download the free game from the PlayStation Store, back it up to your PC using QCMA, and then use PSVimgTools EasyInstallers frontend to apply exploit files to the backup. Then with your Vita or PSTV upgraded to 3.70, you simply copy the modified demo back to your console. It should now appear as a Trinity bubble. You simply open it and follow the steps as you would in h-encore. For all intents and purposes, Trinity has the exact same function as h-encore but for firmwares 3.69 and 3.70. I would have published this update days ago but I wanted to first test it out for myself. Having done so I have some good news and bad news.
The good news is that on 3.70, the PSVimgTools Whitelist hack still works. With Trinity installed, Xperi's usb video streaming plugin still works. TheFlow's Adrenaline still works, although I needed to reinstall it. So if you want to play all your blacklisted Vita, PSP and PSone games on television with the latest firmware, you're good.
The bad news is that, at the time of my writing, the SD2Vita doesn't work with Trinity. For the record, my Vita has an official 64GB memory card mostly used for game saves for physical Vita games, and for most of my digital games I have an SD2Vita version 5 with a 256GB Samsung microSD. To switch the SD2Vita back and forth from uma0 and ux0, I use the TheHeroGAC's TF Card Plugin Tool. Normally when using this app on 3.68, you would mount the Vita memory card as ux0 and the SD2Vita as uma0 or vice versa and then the console would reboot with the cards applied according. But when trying to use it on 3.70, the Vita simply reboots with the official memory card still acting as ux0 - regardless of where you assigned it. Even VitaShell doesn't detect the SD2Vita.
The problems seems to be that the SD2Vita plugins have not been updated yet to work with the latest firmware. Until such time, this means you are stuck with using official memory cards on firmware 3.70 - even with a hacked console.
Fortunately, if you already upgraded to 3.70 and regretted doing so, TheFloW has you covered. Now that you can use Trinity, you can use Modoru downgrade your console back down to 3.68. The process is a little fiddly, as you need to deactivate your plugins by renaming the tai folders on ux0 and ur0, which you can then rename back to their original names once back on 3.68. I just spent the last half hour downgrading my Vita2000 and PSTV back from 3.70 to 3.68. One thing I am pleased to report is that after downgrading, the PSVimgTools whitelist hack still worked. And that's despite having to rename the tai folders. Which really tells me a lot about just how seemingly indestructible the PSVimgTools Whitelist hack truly is.
So it seems the take home message is this: if you are dead set on using official Vita memory cards, you can freely upgrade to the latest firmware and still take full advantage of Adrenaline and Vita USB Video streaming in combination with the Whitelist hack; but if you've become rather reliant on the SD2Vita, you're better off waiting the plugins for it have been updated to work on 3.70. You can still spoof the latest firmware to access the PlayStation Network features. And if you don't mind upgrading and downgrading firmwares, that it also an option should you need to play a new game that uses 3.70.
All in all, these latest exploits proves that even in death, the Vita still lives. Vita means life!
