Release additional streaming media apps for the PlayStation Vita / PlayStation TV consoles

The PlayStation Vita is the world's most powerful handheld games console. While it boasts a software library of over 1,000 games spanning its native titles and games running under emulation for the PSP, PS One, and as part of the Minis and PlayStation Mobile range, it is currently lacking considerably in comparison to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 when it comes to playback of streaming content.
While the situation is better for gamers in the US, the global situation is relatively bleak. Apart from the integrated picture viewer, music player and video player which is predominantly designed for playback of movies and television programmes purchased from Sony's own store, there is very little choice for PS Vita (and subsequently PlayStation TV) owners.
Gamers have been calling for access to apps for Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, BBC iPlayer, YouTube (in territories where this is not available), Sony's own VidZone and many more services yet what has been provided is extremely limited.
In the EU gamers have to be content with YouTube, TuneIn Radio, Music Unlimited and Live From PlayStation, certainly not meeting the needs of consumers. While we appreciate that in many cases it is the service providers that need to develop these apps or need to arrange for localisation, we firmly believe that there is a lost opportunity for revenue from additional subscribers to these services from PS Vita and PlayStation TV owners wanting to access these services.
With the PlayStation TV things are even more bleak. There are no services available even though many are available on the PS Vita despite the console having identical hardware. Having the phrase "TV" in the name implies that some form of on-demand services are available and the lack of these is off-putting to potential buyers.
What we are asking is for all divisions of Sony Computer Entertainment across the globe to collaborate and ensure that additional services become available and enhance both consoles for gamers and the service providers in question. The services are available already on other platforms so we do believe that localisation rights would not be an issue so we feel that it is only app development holding these back. As such we would call for the following to be produced and made available (not an exhaustive list):
- YouTube (in additional territories and for the PlayStation TV)
- Amazon Instant Video
- BBC iPlayer
- Demand 5
- ITV Player (a dedicated app, not the web-based portal seen on the PS3)
- Music Unlimited (rolling out to additional territories)
Plus as many other services as possible, and other localised services as are seen viable. As some of these are already available in some territories we do not believe that global rollout would be difficult or time consuming but would benefit the wider gaming community immensely. In fact, promotion of these on the packaging of both consoles would make them instantly more attractive.
Please consider this request and support loyal PlayStation Vita owners across the globe who have passionately supported the consoles since launch.
